Motorsport and Cycling, Goodwoods’ Cycling Revival

As motorsport enthusiasts and cyclists, to say working with Goodwood on their cycling offering was exciting would be an understatement. Goodwood is famed for their prestigious motorsport events like the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival, and their quintessentially British Goodwood Hotel. They wanted to explore the opportunity to increase cycling participation across the estate, with their location, race circuit, health and wellness facilities at the hotel, it was a prime opportunity. Whether it was utilising bicycles as a means of transport around the estate, or competitive events on their purpose build race circuit, there was clearly potential.

Goodwood is no stranger to cycling, in 1982 they hosted the UCI Road World Championships, Italy’s two time Giro d’Italia winner Giuseppe Saronni took Gold, with America’s three time Tour de France champion Greg LeMond in Silver, and Irish champion Monument legend Sean Kelly in Bronze for the mens race. Britains own Mandy Jones took Gold that year on home soil following her Bronze medal in 1980, with Italy’s cross country skiing and cycling legend Maria Canins in Silver, and Belgiums cycling legend Gerda Sierend in Bronze rounding off the podium. Cycling returned to Goodwood in 2024 where they hosted the iconic Eroica Britannia festival, celebrating modern and vintage cycling, aligning with Goodwoods roots in cycling, and their own Goodwood Revival festival.

Gear Labs were tasked to explore these opportunities and conduct some in-depth market research, investigating key opportunities for Goodwood and how their infrastructure and existing communities could be best utilised for the cycling world.

Its great to see cycling become an ever-growing part of the Estate’s offering with cycling track sessions. Whether you’re looking to ride in a traffic free environment, or get some specific training sessions in outside, its a great to see the classic circuit being utilised.
